Are there any Laundry Facilities?

Within the Garth and Mickledale cottages there is a washing machine and Air Drying Racks provided. For all other cottages there is a Laundry Room located within near the barn of the cottages (exact location provided on arrival), there is one washing machine and one dryer to be used by guests. Please be mindful of other guests.

What are the arrival and departure times?

Arrival is after 3:00pm; departure is by 10:00am. Earlier check-in and later check-out may be available on request and this this usually depends on whether we have other guests leaving/arriving the same day.

Can we arrive earlier?

It can take 4-6 hours to clean and service the cottages to our standards, including any essential maintenance and repairs. Therefore unfortunately we can’t guarantee availability before our stated arrival time. If you arrive early it could be that we will still be preparing the property, however you could park up in the Car Park and take a walk around the local area which includes a playground and a pub a short walk away.

What happens if we need to arrive late?

That's not a problem. All of our apartments have key lockboxes outside, which means that you can let yourselves in as late as you like. Key codes are sent to you in advance so there is no need to collect keys.

What is the weather like in Cumbria

We have a variation of weather in the Lake District and Cumbria, sometimes all seasons in the same day. Forecasts are fairly reliable but just always be prepared for all weathers. Here is the link to the Met Office Weather Locally

Are the cottages suitable for disabled guests?

Unfortunatly the grounds at Wetheral do not really lend themselves well to anyone who may struggle to move around freely.  We have uneven stone floors, and cobbles outside, and well as being located on the side of a hill.  If you are able to cope with a degree of ground variation and one or two steps, we may be able to accommodate you in one or two of our cottages.  Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Are the cottages suitable for young children?

Yes very much so and we are perfectly suited for family holidays.  If you have any concerns please contact us and we will be happy to discuss with you so that you can decide on suitability. We unfortunately don't supply highchairs or cots, so these you will have to bring a long with you. Our drawers and cupboards do not have childproof locks. We don’t have any special play facilities within the grounds for children, there is a playground  only a couple of minutes walk from the cottages.

I want to bring my dog. What facilities are there and how many do you allow?

You are welcome to bring your well-trained dogs. We allow up to 2 dogs to be booked per property but please contact us if you have more and we'll see what we can do. Please note guests’ dogs must be kept well under control in the grounds.  Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms but if you bring your own throws dogs can go on the sofas. Dogs must not be left behind when the guests are out. The local pub - The Highland Drove Inn - which is only a few minutes walk away is dog friendly and we also provide a medium sized plastic dog bed (but please bring your own blanket). Please let us know in advance, via the booking process, if you wish to bring your dogs. An additional charge per dog will apply and you will be expected to follow our dog rules stated above.

Is there Wifi?

Each cottage individually has their own B4RN connection, the worlds fastest rural broadband offering 1Gbps. You should have no problems accessing the wifi during your stay.

Is there phone signal?

This will depend on your network provider.  There should be phone signal on site, however due to the solid stone walls, you will likely find the connection less stable inside the cottages.

Are there car parking facilities?

Yes we have plenty of parking. You approach the cottages up a driveway and on entry to the left is a sign posted car park. You are able to park your vehicle here for the duration of your stay. Please do not park your car anywhere else on the site. When parking please be mindful of other guests.  Park considerately and try to keep noise to a minimum so to not disrupt the tranquillity of the site, or our neighbours.

What public transport is there?

There is a bus stop a few minutes walk from the Cottages by the Church and School. The buses that run from there are the 134 and 137. To find out further details on their timetable click hereThere are a few taxi services within the market town of Penrith and there is also the railway station which is a 13 minute drive away.

What is the closest supermarket?

The closest to the cottages is a Co-op in Lazonby which is a 6 minute drive away. There are a selection of Supermarkets within town of Penrith, including a Booths , Morrisons, Sainsburys, Aldi - these are a 12-13 minute drive away from the cottages.

Are there places to eat nearby?
